Reflections for Patrolman Thomas J. Durkin

Officer Durkin was my Grandfather but never met. My father George talked dearly about him and missed him much. He served Denver well and hope he is never forgotten. Pat Durkin

This is my Grand Uncle. His sister, Margaret Jane Durkin, was my Grandmother. Margaret married Augustine Timothy Bradley. They had 6 children and one adopted. One of their sons, James Vincent Bradley was my father. Thomas came to the United States from Ireland with his brother James Durkin and my Grandmother.

This is my Grand-Father, whom I've never met. He was killed before my parents were married. He is the first of four generations of poiice officers in my family. God rest his soul.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 83rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Your memory will always be honored and revered for time never diminishes respect.

Patrolman Durkin - The loss of any cop and parent is sad enough, but a parent to ten kids is probably devastating. I can only hope your widow and children were cared for in the aftermath of your loss.

Three Fridays ago, on a very rainy morning, I stood in the State Assembly chambers when your name was one of almost 250 read off during a motion regarding next month's Peace Officers Memorial Week. You are not forgotten.

Thank you for your service to the people of the City of Denver and the State of Colorado.

May God grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you.
