I thank God, the city of Norfolk and the internet for keeping his memory alive as well as the memory of Frank Davis for his family as well. I did a short stint as a deputy sheriff in Norfolk for several years. I knew about this incident but did not know the details. Thank you for bringing the facts .

Thank you Davis Parker and others responding on this page. According to my Father, Robert was changing shifts with officer Davis early in the morning . At about that time of shift change, a burglary call came in over the radio that stated a bank at the Wards Corner area was being robbed and he decided to go with officer Davis as back up. upon arriving on the scene, they both exchanged fire with the alinements and my uncle was shot through a mail box while dogging for cover from a .45 ACP round. As a Hampton Roads native I’m always curious of the circumstances behind this, especially in July.

To the Dunn Family ~~

My deepest and heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your Officer Dunn nearly 71 years ago. I am from the Davis Family, and can tell you that we too have felt an extraordinary loss, in losing our Officer Davis. These two fine gentlemen were working their shift together when the call to duty came that awful morning. We can be always proud of how they served their community, their people. From our family to yours, blessings and peace within, as we remember so fondly our gentlemen, gone from here too soon.
