Reflections for Detective Sergeant John Dunleavy
Rest in Peace, Sergeant Dunleavy. Your sacrifice is not forgotten.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the ninety-ninth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
Rest In Peace.

Detective Sergeant Dunleavy - 76 years later, and about a thousand miles away, your story would be repeated when LAPD North Hollywood Detective Tom Williams was gunned down as he picked up his son from daycare - targeted for doing his job and arresting and prosecuting a robbery suspect. You protected your little girl - what more could any dad do? Thanks for your example of commitment, courage, and fatherly love.
Two Fridays ago, on a very rainy morning, I stood in the State Assembly chambers when your name was one of the almost 250 read off during a vote regarding next month's Police Memorial Week. You are not forgotten. Thank you for your service to the people of Pueblo and the state of Colorado. May God grant you eternal rest and may his perpetual light shine upon you.
