Sir, we installed a memorial sign for you this week on the bridge directly above the rail yard where you were killed. May everybody who passes by your sign take a second to remember your sacrifices.

Policeman Downey - Your loss, no doubt, hit your co-workers and family very hard. The City of L.A. was worse off for your loss. May you rest in peace, Sir. We shall carry on, with our duties, for we cannot do otherwise.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 90th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace.
