I am writing an article about the Otis family, was researching John Tileston Downes and found your ODMP remembrance. He was my uncle, my 3d great grandmother's brother. Thank you for remembering him.

I mistakenly wrote an inaccurate eow date on my previous post. Today is actually the 201rst anniversary of your death. So many years ago but still remembered now and forever.

While checking for members of the Chicago Police Department killed on today's date your name jumped out at me as it was at the top of the list. I wonder of perhaps we are related? Your brave actions can serve as an example for me. Thank you and I hope to keep up the fine tradition you set.

Deputy Downes,
Today, 192 years later my husband, a deputy sheriff is carrying on where you left off. Although your life was taken, the execution of your offender prevented anymore innocent lives from ending. Thank you for your sacrifice......You will always be a hero.
