Reflections for Prison Guard Walter R. Doucette
Your heroism and service is honored today, the 76th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. How proud you must be with four generations of your family continuing your legacy of protecting and serving.

I thought about you all last night, Grandpa-- about how hard it must have been for the family after you died-- killed on Christmas Eve. I know my Mom helped raise her brothers and sisters. I miss my family at Christmas more than any other time of year, but there's such a sense of loss at this time of year. You died 75 years ago yesterday grandpa-- I never forget....

I think about your ultimate sacrifice often, but especially on it's anniversary date. It's a sad irony that such a happy time of year can change in an instant as it did for you and all of the loved ones you left behind. It's the chance that all of us in this profession face daily. You still stand tall and proud in my mind and I will never forget your contribution and sacrifice to make the Commonwealth a safer place for all.

The Correctional Officers’ Prayer
Lord, I ask for courage...
Courage to face my own fears.
Courage to take me where others will not go.
I ask for strength...
Strength of the body to protect others.
Strength of spirit to lead others.
I ask for dedication...
Dedication to my job to do it well.
Dedication to my community to keep it safe.
Give me, Lord, concern...
For all those who trust me and
Compassion for all those who need me.
And, please, Lord...
Through it all,
Be at my side.

Guard Doucette,
On today, the 72nd anniversary of your murder I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. There is no tougher job in Law Enforcement then that of a Corrections Officer. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Guard Doucette, today marks the 71st anniversary of your vicious murder. We can only hope that those responsible for your murder and the brutal way in which you were treated after you were shot, faced true justice, if not in this world, then in the next. We can only hope that the powers in charge learned from your tragedy NOT to send only one man with two prisoners.
God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.

Dear Grandpa,
I never knew you, but heard about you all my life....... what a tragedy that you were killed Christmas Eve, leaving 6 children. Mom rarely spoke of it, but she told me that you took the inmates to a diner for a Christmas Eve dinner-- you wanted to do something nice for them-- and they somehow got your weapon. Today one officer would never be transporting two inmates, let alone in a taxi. These two died in Bridgewater, where three more generations of the family has worked.
Your life is still being celebrated, dear Grandpa. Mom has passed on now, and I trust she is with you. Kisses to you both on this Christmas Eve!
