I knew Ted Donald also known as Teddy since I was 11 years old...He was a cool and humorous guy...I can remember when he attended
the police academy.I can remember hearing his name over the news the day that he was killed...I was shocked and it took a minute to register that they were talking about the Teddy I knew.I can remember when I was living in the projects on Courtland Avenue with a young baby he came by to check on me.It is still very hard to believe....
Hey Teddy Rest In Peace....Oh and your family is doing fine...Sorry I didn't get a chance to say Goodbye...

I was 14 years old and graduating from St Francis De sales on 6/16/79.
You were killed on 6/15/79. I was approached by one of the Nuns of the school and ask to do a Funeral since i was an Altar Boy Never realizing at the Time it was for a Hero who gave his life trying to make the Street of the Bronx Better. I am 51, and for some reason this funeral popped into my mind today. Thank you for your Service Police Officer
Ted W. Donald. RIP

It was my honor to research newspapers, books and magazines and finally find your ID Card Photo and make sure your photo was put on this site. I wanted to put a face to your heroism in the Line of Duty. I did the research because you are a brother officer and no matter how many years past, you will always be remembered. Rest Easy Hero.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 33rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace,

I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

I knew Ted Donald as a fine and dedicated Police Officer who did his job every day and in every way. I was the Aide to the Chief of the HAPD when Ted was killed in the line of duty and responded along with the Chief of Department to the hospital where Ted was taken and where he expired. We met with his family and tried our best to console and comfort them. Over the course of the next few days we made sure that Ted was accorded a funeral with full honors and one befitting an officer of his quality and dedication. To this day I wish only that his family will prosper and will accept the gratitude of an appreciative police department who to this day honors the memory of Police Officer Ted Donald. May he rest in peace with our loving thanks for a job well done.....Chief J. Keeney

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Officer Donald, today marks the 28th anniversary of your murder. I thank God that your partner remained safe and curse the suspect who took you from family and friends and the Department that you served for 9 short years.

The New York City Housing Police is gone now but heroes like yourself and the sacrifices you made will keep it alive forever.

God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.

CROSSING OVER ..... A NEW BEGINNING

Like each tiny grain of sand,through an hourglass
flowing
Our lives shift gently, without any definite
peroid of time,
Some of us soar slowly, like birds flying upon
feathery wings
While others seem to pass quickly, like fresh
grapes on a vine.

It is hard to tell your loved one good bye, if
only for a while
Though you know your souls later, will be forever
inter-twined,
Missing their arms surrounding you, and their
face filling smile
Yet they're always there guiding you, if you're
open to their signs!

When you just can not picture, how life without
them could be
Tears filling your eyes, as a swelling stream
never ending,
If you just think about God's love, then you
suddenly will see
What one thinks of as death, is truly a life
peacefully beginning !!

So grieve as you must, but don't let it take away
your life
Given so preciously to us, from our Lord God up
above,
Whether a Sister, brother, son, daughter,.....
husband or wife
Everyone is blessed by our Savior, with beautiful
eternal life!

Ted and I went to the Academy class of May 11, 1970. We all got along so well, and even had fun. I recieved this Web site from another retired Member. I remember Ted as a decent young man and extend my sympathy to his family.

~~~Eternally and Always~~~
I didn't get to say goodbye
You're gone without a reason why
I've loved you all of my life
and then you weren't there
I didn't get a chance to say
how much I cared
I can't even remember the tears
that I cried
All I really wanted was to tell you
Goodbye
When I last saw you I felt I wouldn't
see you again
There was a distance between us
that I couldn't explain
You wouldn't look
at me but I could see the tears
in your eyes
If you knew then
You should have told me
Then I could have said
Goodbye
So many words left unspoken
So many hearts left so broken
My love for you is forever
And that will never die
We'll be together always
Our souls are one with God
Eternally and Always
I'll never have to say
Goodbye
~~~To those I Love and Those Who Love Me~~~

When I am gone, release me, Let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I traveled alone.

So grieve a while if indeed you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories within your heart,

I won't be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near
And if you listen with your heart, you'll
Hear all of my love around you soft and clear

And when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and say,
"Welcome Home"
