I think of you every year on this date and remember so clearly the details of the night you died. I was working in the radio room that night. It still hurts my heart even all these years later. In addition to being co workers April and I had the same birthday. I enjoyed our friendship immensely. I miss you April. Rest easy.

Trooper Styburski, it's obvious from reading the reflections on this page that many people were touched by you and continue to honor all that you were --and that you still are, in their lives. You lived the Spirit of the Badge and helped others do it as well. Thank you.

I sort of remember when this incident happen, It touched me so deeply. It happen so simply.. You Never know when or how!! People always say things about Death like .. They are gone now , they are a better place, Death is supposed to be celebrated ETC. Well those folks are alive And I rather be amongst the living . as long as i can.. Death is not pretty no matter how they dress you!! You were too young, To Pretty, know matter what people say That was so tragic and all this time it still tragic. Where ever you are I do believe in God so i cannot question him. But i really want to know how you fill . Come to me and tell me .. or let my mother Corrie Carter, come and tell me. I know you all can. I have experienced several spiritual encounters
Rest In Peace..

April, you were a Sp4 when I started my military career with the 822nd MP Company at a young 18 yoa. You were the older, wiser fellow soldier that I looked up to and the police officer that I someday hoped to be. You were my idle. I was so honored to be invited to your wedding and even more honored when you asked me to play a special role in your beautiful sons life. I followed in your footsteps to a career in law enforcement and could not be more proud. I will never forget you. I will keep my promise I've made to you so many times in my prayers.
May God bless you my friend.

I met April way back when I was a new officer with the Elmhurst Police Dept. I learned from her and other troopers, that the State Police were always nearby ready to help! And she was there for me on several occasions. Our friendship was not only about work, but the sharing of our family life. She carried a picture of her newborn in her wallet and was very proud to show everyone. I thought about April when my first child was born 11 monthes later and understood for myself, just how proud a mother feels! You will never be forgotten. Thank you for your frienship.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traff
