Reflections for Inspector William J. Davis

Rest In Peace Brother in Blue. Thank you and your family for your sacrifice and service.

Officer Mike Robinson, (Ret)
Upland Police Dept. CA

Dear Grandpa, I found some tattered newspaper clippings tucked away in my mother's hope chest yesterday. My mother, Mary Angela Davis, was just 14 years old when you were shot to death, she rarely spoke of you to us, her 8 children in Cleveland, Oh. She said that you were her hero, a brave and kind gentleman to all. She was proud of you, so grateful that on your deathbed you converted to Catholicism; you received all the sacraments, thereby comforting your wife Josephine. She believed she would see you again in heaven. Thank you for this last gift to our family. Until we meet...may God hold you and all officers in His loving arms.

Every year since 2009 I have made the blue ribbons with the 51 names of the Oakland Police Officers who have died in the line of duty. It is my honor to do this for the fallen officers. The ribbons hang on a tree outside the Warehouse Bar and Grill in Oakland, California for all to see the sacrifice they have made to keep us safe. God bless you all and rest in peace.

A grateful citizen

We have always loved and cherished you, even though we have never met. Your great-grandson and now your great-great grandson, are honored to carry on your name. Though it has been over 80 years since your passing, you are still missed.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 81rst anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Yesterday I attended the memorial service for your four fallen OPD brothers who were shot on the darkest day of OPD history.

Inspector Davis,
On today, the 80th anniversary of your murder, I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Oakland. It took another year, but your murderer finally got the justice that he deserved.
