Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Malcolm S. Davis

Malcolm Davis was my grandfather's brothers son. I was born in 1940, amd he died in 1933, so I never knew Malcolm, but was told about his bravery and heroism. My grandfather, W.B. Dwiggins was the Executor of Malcolm's will. I am proud to say Malcolm part one of our family.

I recently watched “The Highwaymen” which is the story of the hunt for and the eventual justice brought to Bonnie and Clyde. This film, in my humble opinion, unlike the previous movies, acknowledges and shows respect for the Law Enforcement Officers who lost their lives to these animals and does not show them to be any kind of folk hero. It was long overdue.

Though the name of each and every Officer is not mentioned, some are and I believe the sacrifice by all is honored.

God Bless you, Deputy Davis, and may your eternal rest remain ever peaceful, Brother.

It is so sad that the Bonnie and Clyde Gang are so well known. As a society we glorify the criminals and either ignore Hero’s like you or make the Hero’s appear like the criminals. It is very sad that the names of Bonnie and Clyde are known even to our children, when it is your name Deputy Malcolm Davis that should be known. You are a hero and a man to be looked up to. May you rest in peace and thank you and your family for the ultimate sacrifice. WE are a better people today because you walked among us yesterday. God Bless

Deputy Davis was murdered as Officers from both Tarrant County and Dallas staked out a house in Dallas. Deputy Davis watching the back heard shots fired, went to investigate and he was shotguned on the porch. Barrow and the other suspects fled the scene.

Each of you who has lost his or her life to the likes of such criminals has a better place to live in eternity than the criminals do. That, in itself, brings comfort to those left here on earth. The beat on Heaven's streets is walked by individuals who were willing to make the ultimate, unselfish sacrifice. What a glorious sight that must be at Heaven's gates! We rest easy knowing that with angels like you, and the other Heavenly LEOs, the beat goes on!
God Bless all of you!

When I was a child I saw the movie about Bonnie and Clyde. The movie made them seem oddly glamourous, and I actually felt sorry for their deaths. Now as an adult who is married to a law enforcement officer it makes me sick that these horrible people could in any way seem glamorous. They were dispicable human beings.

You died many years before I was born, but your sacrifice, and the sacrifice of your family is very much appreciated. Any coward can do horrible things, but only a hero can be a law enforcement officer.

Deputy Davis you are in great company now. You died as the others did,,serving your State and community trying to rid the world of those who hold no value on life. While they took nine officers,,it was your fellow Texas Lawman that hunted them down and ended it.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

Marshal Batterson, you were a true hero. You will always be remembered.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.
