I never had the pleasure of getting to know my grandfather. I often wonder what he was like. I have been blessed to be able to go to several fallen officer memorials and speak with many whose lives he touched. I am honored to be his granddaughter.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 44th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

SID WAS A MAN THAT ONCE YOU EVER MET HIM, YOU WOULD NEVER, NEVER FORGET HIM. HE WAS A HUGE MAN, TOWERING OVER MOST ALL OF US AND WHEN HE SPOKE, YOU LISTENED OR FACE HIS WRATH AND TRUST ME FRIEND, THATS A WRATH YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO FACE. IF SID SAID DO SOMETHING, DON'T ASK WHY, JUST DO IT. WHEN HE CRAWLED ON THAT HARLEY, HE LOOKED LIKE A GIANT ON A CHILD'S BICYCLE. BUT UNDERNEATH THAT GRUFF AND RASPY VOICE WAS A MAN OF COMPASSION AND LOVE, HE LOVED PEOPLE AND THEY LOVED HIM. HE WAS A, "ONE OF A KIND", AND WILL NOT BE DUPLICATED. HE USED TO WORK OFF DUTY AT THE STEAK-AN-SHAKE ON E.COLONIAL DR. ON FRI. AND SATURDAYS AND NO-ONE, I MEAN NO-ONE GAVE HIM A BLAST, HE WAS FAIR WITH ALL BUT DON'T GET ON HIS BAD SIDE OR YOU MAY HAVE WISHED YOU WERE SOMEPLACE ELSE. I WAS ALSO WORKING THE NIGHT HE GOT KILLED ON W.COLONIAL DR AND SGT. BOB COOKE AND I WERE ASSIGNED TO INVESTIGATE THE ACCIDENT. SID LOVED MOTORCYCLES AND HE PAID THE SUPREME PRICE FOR HIS LOVE, WE ALL HAD THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR THAT MAN. HE WAS TRULY, "A ONE OF A KIND" THAT WILL NEVER BE DUPLICATED AND IT WAS AN HONOR TO HAVE KNOWN HIM.

"Big Sid" was a fixture at the Steak and Shake on E Colonial Drive in the 60's. He kept us teens in line and taught us some of life's greatest lessons about respect and friendship. God Bless you, Big Sid...
