Rest in peace, Uncle Cecil. I was only 9 when you were killed, but I remember you well. We know that when you went up those stairs that day, you were not afraid. You had transported that man back and forth during many summers to local farms to work, and he trusted you. But that day when you were called to calm him, he was afraid and turned his gun on you. Bless you for your sacrifice in the line of duty.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 69th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
