Reflections for Patrolwoman Debra Sue Corr

Deb, I often think about you and have visited your graveside. It was an honor to be your classmate in the academy. Now retired from active service of 40 years, I will never forget your wonderful smile and special laugh. I honor your service and dedication to serve and protect the innocent. R.I.P.

My Dad Joe Stephens told me of Deb Cord and what happened. At the time he was a detective with the Aurora PD and was nearby when she was killed. I sometimes pass by the spot where she died when I am in Aurora doing my business.

I didn’t know Debra but was with DPD when she died. I remember that awful event. Finally knowledge prevails.

Yesterday the Denver Police Department announced that Officer Corrs' killer was linked to the homicides of four other women in separate cases. Had she not contacted him that night he most likely would have continued to hunt and kill. Although it took over 40 years to validate, Officer Deborah Sue Corr did not die in vain. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

I just retired after over 36 years with the Aurora Fire Department and I ran on Officer Corr on that night. I can remember the details of that night as though it was a recent event. The tragedy of losing an officer so early in her career for no reason will always stay with me. I thank those who choose law enforcement as a career knowing the risks that they will face. I will always remember Officer Corr's sacrifice.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 31rst anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Thanks to your friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

I am also hopeful that the explore who was wounded was able to recover and lead a good and rewarding life.
