Reflections for Patrolman Jerry Wayne Cawthon
Your heroism and service is honored today, the 48th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never dimishes respect, and your memory will always be honored and revered

Officer Cawthon I respect you in every way and you inspire me as I am trying to begin a career in Law Enforcement. When I first began in my studies of Criminal Justice I had happen to be at Llano Cemetery where I saw your name on the monument of fallen Texas Panhandle Peace Officers. Thank you for your service and sacrifice to our community may God bless you and your family. You sir will never be forgoten.

I had the priviledge of serving with Jerry on the same shift, 4pm to midnight,East side beat. Jerry was one of our best K-9 Officers. On the night of his death, he had taken over my beat for that date since I took a day off.The same group of Mexicans that participated in his murder had vowed to kill me previously. I firmly believe that it was a set up and the group thought that I was in that patrol car that evening. Jerry was a good Officer and I will never forget him. Rest in peace Jerry.

Jerry:
It doesn't seem like 42 years since that horrible night. You were a friend and a mentor -- I know you are up there somewhere patrolling Heaven with Bill Meadows!

Patrolman Cawthon,
On today, the 41st anniversary of your murder, I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Amarillo. It's a travesty of justice that your murderer was only given 10 years.
