Reflections for Patrolman William R. Carter

Support of police officers and their families must be maintained in a healthy community. We must find ways through our churches, our schools, our media, our work places to do this.

Unfortunately, my sister, Linda Garnett McMillian, and I, Nancy Garnett Parker, your Great-Grandchildren (Grandchildren of your daughter Viola Carter Kessler and her husband, Carl H. Kessler) never had the opportunity to meet you, however, we have heard about you and your bravery all our lives and are very proud for your service. We have seen photos of you in uniform in an old phone booth in downtown Roanoke around 1925-30. We are so proud of you and pass your wonderful story on to our children. Love, Nancy G. Parker

Your heroism and service is honored today, the eighty-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace.

I honor you for your duty. I've heard stories of you all my life, but this is the first time I have ever seen anything honoring you. I am proud to carry on the tradition of law enforcement and retiring from this profession.

Your great great nephew.

It has taken over 77 years, but you are finally being honored. I am proud to be the first. A hero is never forgotten. May you rest in eternal peace forever......
