Your heroism and service is honored today, the 80th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace.

Warden Carter,
On today the 77th anniversary of your murder, I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of Virginia. I think it was a travesty of justice that your murderer was acquitted.

I actually held the shotgun that was used in this crime. This played on my mind while in the academy. Over and over I knew mortality was real.

I guess it all hit home when my little girl asked where she could come a visit me when I died.

That was too much. I left the job of a lifetime to only have a few years with her before mother left me and took her away.

It ate at me for leaving, but who can look back at that time. I guess I died myself for the Department or at least I wish I had. It was a job of a lifetime but now it has been a lifetime of misery without my wife a daughter.

So, I want you to know this man gave all he had and I bailed because of a love for my family and my children.

I didn't have what it took at the time. I wish I knew now what I should have known then.

God Bless my fellow Wardens.

Since becoming involved in the law enforcement family over 10 years ago, I have learned a great and valued lesson - a public servant may one day make the ultimate sacrifice for those he serves. This is true of my great grandfather. While I know only very limited information about the death of Harvey Carter, I can feel the connection and sense of pride he felt when I look at his picture. Let us in present day continue to strive to serve for the future, yet remembering those from the past.
