I remember this day like it was yesterday. I was six years old. My Mom and Dad were childhood/lifelong friends with Gene and his wife, Peggy! My mom and I were in the grocery store (Publix in Dunedin, Fl) and received a call from my Dad letting us know that Gene had been killed. We had just returned from a trip to New Orleans to visit with them a few months before! Still bothers me to this day!
