Your heroism and service is honored today, the 58th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was murdered on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I haven't the guts to get on one of the bikes we got at work. I need four tires and plenty of metal around me. Officer Byrd, you had the guts to ride and face the elements and risks and it's safe to say you loved doing it. Norfolk lost a hero back then in 1952 and your place can never truly be taken.
