Reflections for Patrolman James E. Bussey

Today our nation pays respect for a Capitol Police Officer who lost his life in the line of duty. It's moments like this that really hit home for our family... and all families impacted by such a tragic loss.

We never had the opportunity to meet you Grandpa Bussey, however your heroism, bravery and legacy will always remain in our hearts.

For every law enforcement officer who protects us every day, thank you for your courage. May God bless all of the men and women who serve.

Uncle Jim, I remember. You stopped by the apartment to see my dad, your brother, before you went on duty. You were filling in for someone that night before you and dad left the next day to go deer hunting. My mother and I met you in the vestibule of our apartment house in the Bronx as we were leaving. I was only 6 years old, but I remember your coming in the door in your uniform. I was awakened that night by my father sobbing. I attended your funeral from St. Philip Neri on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. I am now 82 years of age, and I have not forgotten. Dad is with you. Rest In Peace.

This man is my great great uncle. I learned this today when researching for a family project. I was calling with my grandma and she told me about him. She has a picture of her father, Patrolman Bussey, and their mother, Sarah. I hope, wherever he is now, he is happy. We don't know much about our family history, so it is good to have this, to remember my Great Great Uncle.
Rest In Peace.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 69th anniversary year of your death. I am privileged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace
