I can still hear Jack saying "I can do that", his can do attitude never dimmed and I will never forget the night he arrived as my backup when I was fighting to arrest a burglar/rapist. If it wasn't for Jack, I still don't know how that would have turned out.

Jack, I wish I had been there that night to back you as you had backed me...perhaps things would have turned out differently.

I see a note from Gary Gow and other familiar names....you are not forgotten Jack and never will be.

Jack I think of you every day. I pass the restuarant on the way to and from work almost daily. I say a little prayer for you and your family. I also pry for all the others we have lost and for our coworkers that they all go home. I was working that night in Coral Springs when the call went down. I had worked calls with you in Dist 2. I prayed the whole way and when I arrived I learned the horrible news. I see Allan now and than. You would be proud of him. Take care my friend.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 20th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Deputy Greeney,
I was a young explorer with BSO the day the Lord called you home. I attended your funeral, three total that year, and saw the heartache and sadness of all who attended. I heard Deputy's talk of the incident and realized that my brothers in blue were my new family. 19 years later I wanted you to know that I shared your story with my shift today. Your memory lives on still to this day. See you on the other side brother.

Jack it is just hours before the exact anniversary of your death 18 years ago. There is not a single day that does not go by that I do not think of that night. I still remember you backing me up on an arrest the call prior to the one that took your life. I still remember finding you there. I will never erase that night from my memory. I use it to keep me safe each night I go to work. I will always use that night as the thing that keeps me aware of everything. I pray for you and I ask you watch over all the Alpha Shift guys everywhere from your place on patrol in heaven.

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Jack,
After all of these years, I still cherish the moments we spent together on Patrol. In 201 zone, at the Denny's on 10-40 & sweeps up in 207 zone. You were my FTO, my Friend and my Brother.

17 years later.. you a still missed.

Dear Jack,
Its been a long time, hasn't it? Going on seventeen years now, and I'm just writing for the first time. God, how I've missed you. Nothing was ever the same after you were taken, Jack. Especially the job. I found myself just going through the motions, until, finally, I reached a level of burn-out that pretty much rendered me useless on the job and damn near the same at home. Not that my wife would ever say anything; she knew. It took 10-12 years to accept your death but even now I know I'll never really get over it. Jack, know that I think of you everyday. - G.G.

I was stationed with Jack while in the Air Force. I remember his professionalism, intellect and quick wit and smile. For some reason I was just today thinking about him and did an internet search and am saddened to learn of his passing. He was a great guy!

I was a little maggot when I first met then SMSgt Greeney. He was a cut above the rest. Back in 80' I was lucky enough to be chosen to the first base Emergency Services Team (Super SWAT). He was one of our trainers. We called him John Waynes hero. His air of confidence made you believe he could do anything and back up any BS he spit out. Thanks to him I was able to earn an Air Force Commendation Medal. It's difficult to type with tears screwing up my vision. Although I have learned of my friends death years after the fact..the pain of loss is now. I salute you fallen friend and brother. You are being missed very much. By your leave sir.

Jack,

Well I cannot believe that I am here again because another brother from our beloved agency was killed today. Everytime this happens I am brought back to the night you were taken from us. You are always in my thoughts. I tell the young deputies the story of how you told me as I was under your care on FTO how Deputies do not bleed, they don't get hurt and they go home every night. I try and instill that into them because of you. Today we lost Detective Fatta and all I could do was think of you.

You and Detective Todd Fatta are true heros. Please look after Todd he is with you in a better place. Always watch over us.
