My condolences to the family of Dallas, NC Police Department Corporal Dallas Wells who lost his life when his patrol car struck a tree. They also go out to the Dallas, NC Police Department at this time because when a police officer loses his or her life. It is not jus the family that mourns but the entire police department, the city, the village or town he or she might be working as a police officer for. I have seen my fair share of police funerals on television where the sounds of bagpipes and drums fill the air. You hundreds maybe thousands of police officers from all over the country and Canada attend these funerals. He was truly proud to serve his community but now he has left us all too soon.

Scripture Readings of Comfort for Corporal Travis Wells, of the Dallas, North Carolina Police Department and his Family and his Colleagues:

For the Lord Jesus proclaimed, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God." [Matthew 5:9 ESV] and "Greater love has no one than this that someone lay down his life for his friends." [John 15:13 ESV]. Rest in Peace our Hero-in-Blue. We will take it from here! For the Lord Jesus promised, “… Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise!” [Luke 23:43 EVS] God speed my Brother-in-Blue!

And for the family, friends, and the law enforcement agency in which he served, please find comfort in Jesus’ words, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” [Matthew 5:4 NKJV]

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” [Psalm 23:1-6 NKJV]

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
