Reflections for Assistant Chief of Police Kirt Roy Ricks, III

I just want you to know that I did make it on a narcotics unit . I know that was you’re dream for me you and Bobby to get on one together. I still remember the fist time we met in that vehicle pursuit and all the crazy adventures after. I remember the day you graduated police academy . I miss you a lot dude and truly wish we had more time together . I remember the tv station interviewing me after you passed and how hard it was for me to talk but I wanted people to know more about how great of a person you were . You were so much more then a police officer . You were my best friend. Rest easy up there brother I know you are patrolling the heaves looking down on us

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Kirt died in the line of duty.

To the Ricks family, fellow officers, and all who call Kirt beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I hope you continue to receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Kirt gave to his community and the citizens of Louisiana and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 7, 2018.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray Psalm 91 over all LEO’s and this prayer also:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I know that God sends those angels to watch over our officers, sometimes to protect them and sometimes to whisk our officers into His presence.

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted your family to God every morning for over seven years. I pray that Kirt's life and death will bring glory to God.

Trust those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve

May God watch over the family and fellow officers these heroes worked with. We can only imagine their pain. But we can sympathize with them and we must support them. This is what the Patriots and Heroes looks like folks. Running to the danger when all others run away from it. Selfless and fearless to the end. They now work heavens Beat. And are in God's hands forever. Ever watching down on us all.
