As a participant in the 2019 ODMP National Police Week 5K run, I was randomly assigned Officer Lawton to run for. I didn't know this until the morning of the race when I picked up my race packet. While I didn't personally know him, and have never been to Zachary, LA, running for a lost hero causes you to reflect on his life and sacrifice during the race, and thereafter. So I had to find out more. After the run, I visited the National Law Enforcement Officers memorial and found his name inscribed on the wall (40W31). I found that his service to his community was honorable, and that he died during an attempt to arrest a felony wanted suspect. I also found that I know your Chief through IACP, which makes our police world a smaller place and one in which I can relate to this loss. Your sacrifice will always be honored and remembered. Rest in Peace Officer Lawton.

Apex (NC) Police Department

I pray that everyone will find comfort in Revelation 21:4, where it says "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Until we can see all of our loved ones again in Paradise, please accept my condolences.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Michael was killed in the line of duty as a reserve officer.

To the Lawton family, fellow officers and fellow firefighters, and all who call Michael beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you. In reading the many reflections left for you, I can see what an impact you made on so many people.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Michael gave to his community and the citizens of Louisiana and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 12, 2018.

Rest in peace Officer Lawton. It isn't enough that you served and put yourself in harms way at the fire department, but yet you served your community two fold working the L.E. side as well. So many will never understand that....and so many are out there that do. You are the great example of others before self. I salute you.
I wish strength and healing for your family, and your brothers and sisters of both lines.

Deepest condolences to Family, Department and Friends. Visit the web site ImagineHeaven.net for a glimpse of the Glorious Reunions awaiting. All law enforcement men and women indeed qualify as "Foxhole Christians" with their duty dangers. As Ray Comfort at LivingWater.com says "Passing is the doormat they wipe their feet on before entering Heaven.” It is our belief they will hear from the Lord Himself. “Do not fear. for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom” (Luke 12:12).

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place.
As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say “it’s OK, you’re with your eternal partners.”
A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.
