As we all try and understand why inmates for all intense and purposes are at their last opportunity in life to acknowledge before God that they have sinned , and given one more opportunity to choose change, have again chosen hells path. These brave correctional officers that gave their lives trying to help these inmates change their lives have given theirs. God I believe has a special place in heaven for these correctional officer‘s as well as all men and women that are in law enforcement. May God‘s hand be upon those that have been left behind the spouses the children and the friends of these brave correctional officer’s..

A Prayer for Correctional Officer Wendy Shannon:

Heavenly Father,
I humbly come before Your throne in sincere, faithful and fervent prayer on behalf of Correctional Officer Wendy Shannon, of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety - Division of Prisons, who fell in the Line-of-Duty. She sacrificed her life for her fellow comrades and to be true to her oath to the State of North Carolina and her citizens. As a result, she was truly blessed by You. Additionally, bless Wendy because she was a peacemaker in the true sense of the word and thus is considered a child of God. I pray that Wendy will be excepted by You with open arms and a strong loving embrace as she is enters into Your Kingdom. Lord God, please bless those who mourn for her for they shall be comforted; for this is Your solemn promise. Now, Correctional Officer Wendy Shannon rest easy now. We will take it from here! May the 'Blight Light' shine perpetually in your memory. God speed my Sister-in-Blue! God loves you and so do we. Amen.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
