RIH Bro. I thought about you today and remembered the day I got news that you were the officer killed in the line of duty. It hurts to think of your beautiful babies and wife having to experience life without your smile.

I’m visiting New Orleans and met some of Officer McNeil’s loved ones who still tour his accomplishments and show their love. He left an amazing legacy and I’m so privileged to hear his story. From a police wife and former LEO, to his family, thank you for sharing your husband/son/father/family member/friend.

I hope everyone will find comfort in Acts 24:15 - "And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous." Until we see our loved ones again on an earthly Paradise, please accept my condolences.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Marcus was killed.

To the McNeil family, fellow officers, and all who call Marcus beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer McNeil gave to his community and the citizens of Louisiana and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 13, 2017.

Every time he starts a shift
I close my eyes and pray
Watch him Lord - Keep him safe
Let him come home today
He loves that job and he does it well
Without a whole lot of pay
Watch him Lord - Keep him safe
Let him come home today
When things get busy at the end of a shift
It's not uncommon to stay
Watch him Lord - Keep him safe
Let him come home today
Hurry on home when you get off tonight
The kids are in the school play
Watch him Lord - Keep him safe
Let him come home today
He seldom discusses the danger
I know that's just his way
Watch him Lord - Keep him safe
Let him come home today
Now he's gone for five days of training
With a hug and a kiss on the cheek
Watch him Lord - Keep him safe
Let him come home next week
You've worked so hard for that Sergeant's exam
We're so proud we cant even say
Watch him Lord - Keep him safe
Let him come home today
Now he's working a late night shift
So I sleep here alone with my fright
Watch him Lord - Keep him safe
Let him come home tonight
What a career - You're almost there
And finally we can get away
Watch him Lord - Keep him safe
Let him come home today
The retirement party is already set
We've planned it since early in May
Watch him Lord - Keep him safe
Let him come home today
Then early one morning, a knock on the door
And I listen to one of the officers say
As I scream out your name and fall to the floor
"He's not coming home today"

Rest in peace Sir.

"The true measure of a person is not found in the might of their arm, their wealth or their power--it is found in the strength of their character.

There is no greater testimony to one’s character, than ones willingness to sacrifice all, in the noble quest of providing protection to all whom they serve."
