I hope everyone will find comfort in Acts 24:15 - "And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous." Until we see our loved ones again on an earthly Paradise, please accept my condolences.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Floyd was killed.

To the East family, fellow officers, and all who call Floyd beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Eat gave to his community and the citizens of Texas and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 9, 2017

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone with such a positive attitude and eagerness to learn. I can’t even remember what your face looked like without a smile on it. You truly had an infectious personality.

I’ll never forget the old man jokes, or you telling us how to save money by installing solar panels on our homes. Or how you always made it a point to turn in your chair and say hi to us when we walked in the door, no matter how busy you were.

I’m truly greatful for getting to know you the time I did. You were a great police officer and an even better man, husband, father, and friend. It was an honor to serve beside you.

You will never be forgotten, and your legacy will live on through the rest of us. Rest easy now, your work here is done. We have the watch.

An absolutely beautiful service for a hero that I was profoundly privileged to have attended on behalf of my department, and as a former member of TTPD.

I stated this to one of your family members, but perhaps this may help others make some sense of what seems to be a senseless tragedy: You and your fellow TTPD officers did what you were supposed to do that day - you stopped a psychotic student from being able to harm any other student, staff, or faculty member ever again.

As such, MISSION it is every single day by thousands of campus law enforcement and security professionals nationwide.

We only grieve that performing that mission came at such a cost and loss, and we will remember you eternally for it.

Dear Floyd:

What seems to be a re-occurring event every week, again I write a reflection to a fallen brother. I thank you for your service, and as a fellow brother in blue, I am proud of you and the sacrifice you and your family have made. “Protect and serve”. Yes folks, it IS a code we in law enforcement live by, not an overused cliché.

Yes folks, this outstanding American gave his life to protect you, all of you, even a spoiled, mediocre talented, disrespecting football player who refuses to stand for our National Anthem and our flag honoring Floyd and the 20,000 law enforcement officers who gave their all. Or those who hate police because, they just are full of hate for a group of men and women who do a job VERY few can do, for very little financial reward. And the vermin that committed this horrific act of cowardice, part of me would have liked seeing you die in the gutter from which you came, but, since I am in a fraternity like no other, respecting and believing in our judicial system, I looked forward to the day when the Lone Star State sends you to hell. “For the candle of the wicked shall be put out forever”.

Our way of life in America is under attack every day, not only overseas, but rather here in the Homeland. OUR Homeland, our sacred Homeland. The same Homeland that our forefathers promised we can live in peace to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Your supreme sacrifice further enhances that promise. But these freedoms are not free. Unfortunately, a price is paid, a very heavy price. Not only by the officer, but is or her family as well. We can never repay you, Floyd, or every other one of us that have made the supreme sacrifice, except to commit to keeping your service and your memory alive.

Rest in peace, Floyd, and smile knowing you are in Heaven now, as you spent your time in hell.
God bless you, your family, and God bless the United States of America.

Sgt. Ron Tomassi, (Retired)
