For Officer Miosotis Familia:

The law-officer on-the-beat or on-patrol is the primary protector of the public at-large. For one to take the life of a law-officer, pointedly based on hate and resentment - especially execution-style - has consummated the act of a wretched coward. Whatever such thoughts that have made this person an accomplished cop-killer has surely rendered him fit for occupying a place-of-their-own in the pit's of hell - forever.
We regret that Miosotis would meet such a fate, and pray for her family, friends, co-workers and all who care about her.
We proudly render Offficer Misosotis Familia, a solder-of-the-law, a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza, (Ret.)
Pennsylvania State Police

At a moment like this, silence seems to be the only expression that fits. What can we, as mere men, say to a grieving and shattered heart? We speak today because we have a living hope. Death is no respecter of persons. Death is no respecter of youth. Death is a painful intruder and a pernicious reminder of our human condition. But I stand before you today to declare that we have a living hope and that causes us to rejoice greatly. You see, our hope today is found in the fact that Jesus is no longer entombed. He lives. And because He lives, Officer Familia lives. Because He lives, the grieving broken heart has hope, and reason to rejoice. Rest in peace sister. Now walk the beat in Paradise.

I have altered the following quote from Raymond Chandler to be fitting:

Down these mean streets a woman must go who is not herself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. She is the hero; she is everything. She must be a complete woman and a common woman and yet an unusual woman. She must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a woman of honor—by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. She must be the best woman in his world and a good enough woman for any world.

I see this all too often. Being on duty for 4 officer down calls in the last year here at Detroit PD has been horrible. And I couldn't make it through the first two minutes of the recording of this radio call. My heart goes out to NYPD and the family. Rest easy, we got it from here.
