Reflections for Trooper Bruce Thompson Brown

I was there that terrible day. I was only 17 years old but had been a victim of the prisoner previously that year. I had to face that man in a lineup that day. The line ups there were face to face, not one way glass. I remember that there was a commotion going on but no one would tell me what was happening. It wasn’t until late that day, on the way home that I was told what had happened.

Right after that man had held me at gun point, his accomplice held a knife to my throat, I had a notion to run him over when he ran behind my car, but he hadn’t physically harmed me and I was too scared to. I have always regretted that decision.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice, Trooper Brown. I’ll never forget you or that day.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 36th anniversary year of your death. I am privileged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Bruce, you have been gone now for 36 years, and yet, never forgotten and missed by all who knew you over your short 25 years on this earth.

Momma, Daddy and Mac are all gone too. Deep furloughs were cut in their hearts and souls when you died. The rest of us remember and wish beyond wishing that you were alive and well and with us......your wife, daughters, sister and brother......your nieces and nephews all desired to know Uncle Bruce.....Buck.

I remember well and look in awe when I see your physical characteristics and your personal attributes reflected in your children, grandchildren and extended family.

I always remember the date of your death, but I prefer to remember the date of your birth.........when God brought you into our lives. We were all blessed and continue to be .......... having been a part of your life.

LOVE is ETERNAL.

You were my friend, I thought of you as a brother. Our family enjoyed every meal in which you shared our table. A part of all of us died with you. You made us laugh, you were a blessing. I always enjoyed our after dinner football games, thanks for teaching me to throw a football "not like a girl".

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
