Agent Walter,
On today, the 5th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the USMC during the 1991 Gulf War. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

An awesome and genuine young man, husband, father and daddy to a daughter and two sons.
A military veteran and a real seeker and defender of the truth, safety, and security for All people.

Respectful, respected, caring, and trustworthy for people needing help. I did not know you personally but the life you lived and offered to other children to have a chance for a better life is a blessing in my mind, a military retiree’s wife, grandmother to a grand daughter and six grandsons.

I regret I did not visit your VA State patrol car while parked at the State Police Headquarters on Midlothian Turnpike to place flowers and a card to your family expressing my gratefulness to your professional and personal contributions for a better VA, a better United States, and a better world.

I pray to God for a hedge of love, peace, and protection for Mrs. Walter and the three Walter children.

A few years ago I was on an airplane enroute to Houston Texas. During this flight I experienced a medical emergency that required emergency landing of the aircraft in Jackson Mississippi. Mike was on this flight enroute to attend training. ( I think maybe in New Mexico).
Mike responded to assist me during this incident, having retired from public safety myself, Mike reassured me and stayed with me the entire time. Public safety officers like Mike are few and far between. His calming demeanor and helpful attitude can never be taught, you either have it or you do not. Mike Walter had it! My prayers go out to his family and I owe a big thank you to Special Agent Mike Walter. I am proud to call him a friend.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Michael was killed in the line of duty.

To the Walter family, fellow agents, and all who call Michael beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

Michael was also my son's brother in green so I also thank him for his service to our country in the Corps and bid him Semper Fi/

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Special Agent Walter gave to his community and the citizens of Virginia and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on May 26, 2017.

I hope everyone will find comfort in Acts 24:15 - "And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous." Until we see our loved ones again on an earthly Paradise, please accept my condolences.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I never met you but I ran into your oldest son at my son’s wrestling match. He was encouraging other wrestlers in a way that seemed beyond his years. You would be proud.

Rest easy brother and patrol the beats of heaven! Behind my badge is a heart like yours. I bleed. I think. I love. And yes, I can be killed. And although I’m but one man, I have thousands of brothers and sisters who are the same as me. They will lay down their lives for me. And I them. We stand watch together. A thin blue line. Protecting the prey from the predators. The good from the bad. We are the police.
