Reflections for Chief of Police Steven Eric DiSario

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

On Friday morning the 12th of May in the State of Ohio, county of Licking, village of Kirkersville, a police officer was killed in the line of duty. In a few days, we will lay to rest and say goodbye to this officer. I did not know the Chief personally but yet I knew him, for I know the type of person that does this job that we do. The type that run towards danger when others are running away. The type that puts themselves between evil and innocent. All too often pays the ultimate price with their life. This officer was a father, husband, son, and friend and will be sadly missed. He will be spoken of as a hero and rightly so for he is all of that and more. So, my brothers and sisters of the thin blue line, we must honor his life, his sacrifice and never forget because that is our pledge to protect and serve. I am reminded of a Native American prayer; When a warrior died, the Chief would take his bow and shoot an arrow towards the sun and say, “Great Creator, a brother comes to you like an arrow, straight and true. Welcome him, let him set at your council fire, and hold him in your arms”. May God bless Chief DiSario’s family and give them comfort and the strength to get through this terrible loss. God bless all of my brothers and sisters of the thin blue line. May Saint Michael shield and protect you. I did not know him but yet I do.

Another courageous Sheepdog trying to hold the line against the vicious, spineless and sole less wolf, while protecting the flock. We are all terribly saddened by yet another senseless killing of a fine man who leaves behind a devastated family whose world has been turned upside down. I'm sure the Chief was barely making ends meet on a small town police salary while trying to raise 6 children.
I'm asking all my sheepdog brothers and sisters out there to please reach out to the Disario family, Kirkersville PD and the community
to help in anyway we can.
God Speed and may God Bless Chief Disario and his family
