We must continue to thank you and your loved ones for your armed forces service and your service with our CHP. A burden shared can be lessened and there are many good people that were and are deeply saddened and hurt by your loss. To honor your life, service and sacrifice; we will continue to support all of law enforcement; our first responders and service members, and live our lives in the best ways we can; to always do the right thing and to help others. I know you will never be forgotten. Love is eternal; it transcends all things; time, space, and even our passing from this place. In memorium, with all respect.

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Lucas was killed. Christine, I admire you for now attending the police funerals of Northern California officers who have fallen after Lucas and being there for others just beginning their grief journey.

To the Chellew family, fellow patrol officers, and all who call Lucas beloved as they make the pilgrimage to D.C. to see his name engraved on the Memorial, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I hope you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Chellew gave to his community and the citizens of California and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 22, 2017.

Lucas died while living his adrenalin-fueld passion. Too bad that it was a scumbag who precipitated his death. Now, if we could only hope against hope that justice will be meted properly.

My condolences to his entire (extended) family. The pain will never go away, just lessen in intensity. God bless you all.

The Judgement

The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church have you been true?

The officer squared his shoulder and said, No, Lord, I guess I aint,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough,
And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.

But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep..
Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray Psalm 91 over all LEO’s and this prayer also:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted your family to God every morning for over six years. I pray that Lucas' life and death will bring glory to His name.

Trust those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.
