Reflections for Military Police Officer Bruce Shepherd Bardliving

RIP

MP Matt Lyons - 1980/83
US Army Military Police - 546th MP Co. Ft. Sill, OK

July 3, 2023

Myself and Mike Grosso were the first MPs on the scene. I was at the roadblock at the pass...Bruce was doing the sweep of the freeway when his tire blew. The post at the time was using re-tread tires and it was one of these that blew....the MPs had new vehicles within a very short time. I was one of the first patrol partners Bruce had. He was one of the "good ones".

I went through BCT at Ft Dix and MP School at Ft McClellan with Bruce. Bruce was a Stripes for Skills entry into the US Army and therefore was a Squad Leader with his own room in BCT. Bruce kinda took me and a friend Joseph Santoro under his guidance when he could. During the few breaks, the 3 of us were together. Bruce spoke highly of his Mom and how he missed her but did not miss NYC. While in MWD School at Lackland AFB Joe & I were speaking fondly of Bruce with an MP from White Sands and he informed of Bruces Death... It hit us hard. Bruce was FULL of life and glad to be serving the country. Joe has said it and I say it... We'll always remember you, Brother...

I was stationed with Bruce at WSMR. I spoke with him the night before his accident. It was devastating for the whole unit. I visited you at Long Island cemetery last year. I’m sorry that it took so long. You were a good friend, and I think of you often. RIP Brother.

I worked with Bruce in the Traffic Section in support of missions. On the day of his death I was working on an internal block. I have fond memories of working with him. After all this time I have not forgotten him... Rest easy, job well done...

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 41st anniversary year of your death. I am privileged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you.

Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
