Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Ryan Sean Thomas

Ryan and I served together at Naval Base Coronado. He was a great friend and valuable police officer. Of my four year tour there he is the first person who comes to mind and I will miss "Keebler". I hope his family remains strong and knows he left a void in many lives throughout the country. Hooyah, shipmate, your relieved from watch.

They time heals... For those who were close it may not hurt as much but time does not fill the whole that was left when a brother was taken from us too soon!

Rest easy my brother we still have the watch!

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

Ryan,
β€œIt was my HONOR to have known you personally and professional since we were former co-workers. Plus, my privilege to call you a brother since we both served in the United States Navy. You, Ryan as a Master-At-Arms and I as a Boatswains Mate. You performed your duties in a professional manner, and conducted yourself in the highest degree. When time permitted, we would talk about what our days in the USN were like and laugh until it hurt. (Coronado CA, Imperial Beach CA, North Island Air Sta., & 32nd St Nav Sta.)
The topic of conversation sometimes would be you wanting to become a Police Officer (with your background & experience). I would encourage you to pursuit your goal in becoming a Police Officer. It was your passion. I know you had it in you. When you informed me of your selection & had your heart set on it, well there was nothing holding you back, I could see it in your eyes & hear it in your voice. You had the COURAGE to do what only most think of doing.
COMMITMENT, you had the Commitment to become the great Police Office in all aspects. From being admitted to the Police academy to-graduating-to responding to calls for help. Ryan, it was your destiny.
So my friend, co-worker and former SHIPMATE, May our Lord grant you eternal rest & peace. Our Lord is merciful; he will look after your Wife, Daughter & unborn Son. We will meet again someday & his Kingdom will have no end. Thank you for your Service. BRAVO ZULU – Joey.”

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Deputy Ryan Thomas fulfilled his dream of being a police officer in the United States Navy and the Sheriff Department of Valencia, New Mexico. It was truly an honor to know him in person and to cherish his memories as a (Master-At-Arms) Police Officer, as he performed his duties with Honor, Courage, and Commitment; as he unselfishly served and protected both military and civilian personnel assigned to Naval Base Coronado, California during his tour of service. Deputy Thomas memories will forever be etched in our minds and hearts this day and forever more. Rest in peace my brother.
