My deepest condolences to Sergeant Alfonso Lopez family. His legacy and dedication too duty will always live on in our hearts. I see his name everyday at the Los Angeles County Sheriff Memorial Wall at Biscailuz Center Training Academy. I am a Recruit with Class 437 and everyday we get dismissed from the grinder where the Memorial Wall and I see his name and it sticks out to me every time I walk past them. I know why am there and the reason I want to become a Deputy Sheriff and one of those reasons are to always cherish and honor those that came before me and continue on with there legacy and contributions to the communities and lives that they impacted throughout there careers.

Security's been breached. We're under attack.
A woman cries out, "Please find my boy Jack."
Fires of metal and chaos keep burning,
The hands of time keep ticking and turning.

Pictures and stories of death and devastation,
Yet heroes arrive without hesitation.
Their neighbors need help, their brothers now too
"All humans unite, let's do what we do."

Search and rescue are the words we hear
The epitome of courage - the earth shattering fear.
L.A.'s finest and bravest fight with their hearts.
Risking their lives, doing more than their part.

During this time of great tragedy,
People may ask, "Oh, where can God be?"
I know where he is, it's plain to see.
He embodies the L.A.S.D.

Thank you for your service. Rest in peace.

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
