Reflections for Detective Lieutenant Elijah Newton Boileau

NEVER FORGET! On behalf of the Ohio Attorney Generals Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation, we honor the dedicated service and ultimate sacrifice of Detective Lieutenant Elijah Newton Boileau of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Police Department, Railroad Police and the additional 61 American Peace Officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice on this date in history.

End of Watch Wednesday, February 24, 1915

Detective Lieutenant E. Newton Boileau was shot and killed in the Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern Railroad yards in Camp Washington, Ohio, when he discovered several hobos in a railroad box car near Arlington Street.

It is believed that the subjects shot him as they hid in the train car, causing a fatal wound. His service pistol was found un-fired inside of his overcoat. A train crew found Detective Boileau's body approximately 15 minutes after a railroad worker heard the gunshot.

Several subjects believed to have been in the boxcar were arrested, but it is not known if anyone was ever charged with Lieutenant Boileau's murder.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 101st anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

Of all the bums in the car, it may have been only one who was totally responsible. Many street bums in this day and age are no good, many are just poor souls in a horrible predicament, regardless of how they came to that predicament. Whomever it was, we can only hope that everyone responsible for your murder faced true justice, if not in this world, then in the next.

Rest in Peace, Brother and God Bless.
