Reflections for Security Supervisor Joseph Peter Zangaro

For Security Supervisor Joseph Zangaro:

Joseph Zangaro, as many of us, was a retired law-officer, furthering his dedication to keeping us safe and in the process gave his own. While this is not our aim, it is a risk and all who wear a badge realize this. Thus he is a the ultimate hero.
Perhaps it might be considered that everyone, no matter what your law-enforcement station, the risk factor should not be considered high or even low. It is a reality. No one who represents law-enforcement is without danger of becoming the next victim of lawlessness and evil deed. Taking a second law-enforcement position is not a step down in risk - rather it is a continued risk. Man or woman, young or old. Inside or outside, standing at the door or taking the high-risk assignment of the emergency response law officer - the end result can be grave sacrifice.
We honor Joseph Zangaro as typical of our breed. For most, we can never get enough. We can never withdraw from being a cop. Reality might be the only thing we ignore, though fully recognizing it standing before us.
We are proud to render Security Supervisor Joesph Zangaro a final salute. Joe was us. Joe believed in serving the people of our great American heritage - and paid the ultimate price - his life for ours.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for over five years. Feel those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.

Supervisor Zangaro, thank you sir for your service. The killer murdered you in an attempted escape from justice. This incident shows us that the courthouse environment is a dangerous place for officers on the job. Thankfully the killer got what he deserved. We will keep your family and Department in our thoughts. Please watch over us as we carry on.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
