On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Eli was killed.

To the McCarson family, fellow troopers, and all who call Eli beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Trooper McCarson gave to his community and the citizens of New Jersey, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on December 15, 2015.

For Trooper Eli McCarson:

The duties of the law-officer on patrol are varied and many and none hardly as serious as the call for help in a domestic situation. While those exist who might be critical of the celerity with which the responding officer might employ it is never quick enough for those who await his/her arrival.
We regret that Eli would be the next law-officer to lose his life in the conscientious and swift response to be of assistance to others. Such is the lot of those of us who must make these at-the-moment decisions, as we all have done so such in our law-enforcement careers.
We pray for Eli's family, co-workers, friends, and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another at this time.
We are proud to render Trooper Eli McCarson, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorennza (Ret.)
Pennsylvania State Police
