Reflections for Policeman Verne A. Brindley

Verne was my father, William T Brindley father. My dad Bill, remembers a little about his father he was the oldest and was 9 when he passed. Verne’s widow, my grandmother Cecelia Brindley was so blessed because the LAPD paid off her house and she received a nice policeman’s pension she lived on for 68 years .. She never remarried and was a remarkable woman and raised my dad and his Brother Robert (Bob Brindley) and those boys loved their mom. It’s sad I never got to know my grandfather but love that he was honored. The Brindley’s were adventuresome people. Verne was part of that. My dad grew up creating the tools to build the Apollo capsules and Douglas DC10’s … I believe Verne would of been proud of him.

Policeman Brindley - Almost 80 years, to the day, later your date of death will be close to Police Officer's Memorial Day. I will wear a mourning band, across my badge, to remember you and all the rest. Sleep well, sir, we have the watch for now.

Your heroism and service is honored today as we approach the 79th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was shot twice when ambushed on April 23rd when he was on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, 74 years after you were killed.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

Vern Brindley was my grandfather's partner in the Vice Squad. My grandfather was Lawrence E. "Benny" Williams. He was driving the car when the suspect got Brindley's gun away from him. The suspect shot and killed Brindley and then attempted to kill my grandfather who kept swerving the car to put the suspect off balance. My grandfather was shot in the knee. My grandmother went to the hospital and later told me it was the only time she saw my grandfather cry. He was so worried about Brindley's kids. Some 26 years later my grandfather died as a result of a bloodclot that formed in his knee. God Bless Vern Brindley for his sacrifice.
