IN MEMORY OF SPECIAL AGENT WILLIAM SHELDON

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Special Agent William Sheldon:

From the beginning of time after Cain killed his brother, Abel, there has been a need for law enforcement officers to protect the weak and to bring evildoers to justice. This work is necessary in a sinful world and is dangerous. In modern times, some two hundred and twenty-one special agents of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives have sacrificed their lives to protect the citizens of the United States of America. Today, we honor the sacrifice of Special Agent William Sheldon, of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; who died on Monday, March 2, 2015, as a result of cancer he developed as a direct result of participating in the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001, in New York City, New York.

Lord God, we are grateful for the life of Special Agent William Sheldon. He died serving us. Help us never to forget. Help us celebrate the life of Special Agent William Sheldon and honor his sacrifice. Be with the family, friends, and colleagues of this fallen hero. Comfort them and give them your strength. Guide those who seek to take care of the family of this hero. May those empowered to do so, care for them with integrity. In commemorating the death of this hero, help those who mourn to remember that death is not the end. Death does not have the final say, but is simply the transition to the glorious life to come. They should look forward to that life to come with joy and thanksgiving.

As for the citizens of the United States of America, help them to faithfully equip their law enforcement officers with the best tools to protect their country. May their training be adequate to the task. Help the citizens of the United States of America to remember to pay their law enforcement officers fairly and treat them with respect. Help the citizens of the United States of America to obey the law and treat each other with dignity so as not to add to the burden of crime and pain to their country.

The time for mourning will soon pass. We have now remembered and celebrated the life lost in this great tragedy. As the family, friends, and colleagues of Special Agent William Sheldon go forward, they must celebrate the good things in their lives; and to celebrate life itself!

Finally, Lord God, we pray for the families, friends, and colleagues of all the law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line-of-duty and we thank you for their sacrifices. Bless the lives of their families, friends, and colleagues so they might find healing. Help their law enforcement organizations support the families of these fallen heroes. Even though their deaths might have been senseless, make something good come out of these situations so that their law enforcement organizations and the communities in which they lived and served might be stronger because of their lives and their deaths.

Now, Special Agent William Sheldon, may the Lord bless you, and keep you: the Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you: the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. Amen.

In His Service,

Police Chaplain Steven R. Closs

As I set up my personal 9/11 memorial every year I reflect on that glorious blue sky & still can't fathom it; When I visit the Fountains at the memorial..I still can't fathom it; When I stop and gaze at that wild flower filled field in Shanksville, PA..I still can't fathom it; Seeing that soaring memorial at the Pentagon;I still can't grasp the reality and horror of it all. Thank you, William Sheldon for your ultimate sacrifice.Your wife and your children should be so proud of you, and I will be eternally grateful. I will remember you especially next 9/11 when I put up my memorial...my memorial candle is beginning to burn low...may i NEVER, EVER have to add any more names !!

Bill I wish you weren't on this memorial, but since you are I can think of no better place than next to ATF S/A John Capano on the ATF Roll Call of Honor. You guys knew each other from your time together working in New York and now you can work together again to watch over those of us still here serving, protecting, and carrying on your legacies. We'll watch out for your family Bill and make sure that as your little ones grow up that they know the great man that there father was. We love and miss you.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

TY TO Special Agent William Sheldon AND TO ALL THE HEROES OF 9/11 WTC TRADGEDY!
Unfortunately people do not understand the entire concept behind what these terrorist did that sad day in NYC. I live out in Suffolk county on Long Island, Ny, 45 miles from the WTC. I could smell the fires from my house. This was a terrible tragedy that unfortunately will keep on killing with the treacherous path it is taken OUR HEROES down. The attack on The WTC 9/11/2001 was the start of the end for many of our heroes because of the contaminated air the had to breath in.
MAY YOU REST IN PEACE Special Agent William Sheldon and ty for your service!
