He was my Grandfather. I never met him, but my Grandmother cried when she saw my high school graduation picture due to the close resemblance. She never married again and raised two children, my aunt 11 and my father 9.

Her single brother moved in with her and the children. He never married and supported the family until his death, trying to fill the shoes of my grandfather. His name was Eddie McCain. He helped save the Mescall family after the loss of my grandfather. They all loved each other very much and supported one another through the crisis. They were all great roll models for me.

My father, James E. Mescall ( Sr.) served in WW II and then joined the Chicago Police Dept. He served 33 years on the job.

R I P grandfather, and all the other brave fallen CPD officers,

James E. Mescall, Grandson.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 86th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.
