Thank you all for your wonderful reflections of our beloved son, Grant William Whitaker. He was a joy to have as a son, and his love for life was infectious to all around him. Mary and I, along with Grants' brothers Aaron and Joshua and sister Angie, miss him every day of our lives. We are so proud of the man Grant became and the love we all shared. He loved Morgan so much, what could have been. We pray for all law enforcement for your safe keeping and give your our utmost gratitude for your service to your communities. God Bless you all, until we meet again.

Grant I did not get to know you, as I retired from Ingham County Sheriff Dept. in 1995. From what I have heard you were a fine officer and served with pride. Taken from us to young and you presence will be missed by many, active and retired members. We are a large family of brothers and sisters who will remember you for years to come until we join you in that special place they have for police officers. God bless your family as I know this will be a hard day for them. RIP brother.

Hard to believe it's been a year already, Grant. Although laying you to rest with the honor guard was one of the most difficult moments of my life, I wouldn't have missed it for anything. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers and we have your family's back, brother. I know you and Nick will watch our 6 while we keep things rolling down here. Rest easy, my man.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Whitaker and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.

To the family of Deputy Whitaker, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you strength and comfort during this difficult time. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Deputy Whitaker is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. I have laid down my life in service to all of you.
I have been a part of the fabric that has held the line between your safety and your victimization. I have given my life so that others may live in peace. I have lived my life as a dedicated member of the greatest profession. There is no greater honor.

As I now become a part of the rich history of law enforcement, please remember me always for I have left behind those who loved and depended upon me.
My partners and my agency, please remember my family, their loss, and don’t let time soften your compassion for them.

You guard the gate now and I will continue my watch from above.

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND MAY YOUR FAMILY FIND COMFORT IN THE GOOD YOU HAVE DONE HERE ON EARTH.
