Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Senior Deputy Jessica Laura Hollis

I'm just now reflecting but I remember the day like yesterday. I met you and your husband while assisting in your training as a FTO with the Austin Police Department. I still remember your smile when you were referred to as "She Hollis" and your husband as "He Hollis". You're a hero in my book!

You are an exceptional human being! From the first days we met, people gravitated to your personality. No one could help but to become your friend. Especially Ricky! Watching you two bond and grow together, marriage and starting your family are some of my fondest memories along with the time we all spent together. From our early days as medics and into law enforcement, you always motivated people to do more. I often think of y’all and miss seeing the three of you together. Kiwi says he loves y’all and misses you guys.

I dont think I had never met you but yet I believe you are my blue angel. The day I heard you were missing- I had a "random" vivid dream of you gracefully and beautifully flowing down the river while passing underneath a beautiful cherry blossom tree. At the time, I didn't understand why I had such a vivid and "random" dream of a Deputy I had never met but I believe you showed me for a reason. I remember feeling my heart break when I heard they found you but I knew that you were okay and now an angel because of my dream. The day of your funeral, someone that you had touched had told me you had a large cherry blossom tree tattoo. You touched my heart again. A couple years later, your name was "randomly" brought up by a fellow Deputy that worked with you. I could tell in his eyes that he still misses you dearly. You touched my heart again. A couple years after that, I was personally asked to light a candle in your memory ("random") at a TNOA conference because you were a member. You touched my heart again. Although that might have seemed random by the person who asked me to light the candle, it made perfect sense that it was you who directed him to ask me. Thank you for touching my heart and continuing to show me "random" signs that you are an angel. I believe that you are my blue angel as a fellow sister in blue. Thank you for your service. I know you are missed by many.

Thank you for your service. To your family I send my most heart felt regrets. The loss you are feeling right now will get better. I know it's hard to believe that at this point but it will come. I pray that you and your son will see the big picture of this mess. But I know in my heart that God has plans for all of us. We don't understand what they are at this point, but we will when he's ready to show us. Please take care of you son I know it will be hard, but as Law enforcement officials we live for the hard stuff.

Jessica,

I'm sorry that it has taken awhile to send this reflection, but I am still in disbelief that you are gone. You were not only a great co-worker, but an example for all us to live by. Rest in peace Jessica. Thoughts and prayers to your family and coworkers as they grieve their loss. We have a saying in Ontario "hero in life, not death". Its means we are heroes by our actions as first responders not because we died.

God bless

This was written by a cop friend of mine.

A Warriors Soul

The thread of life is thin
The line we walk is narrow
For those who choose to Protect and Serve
There's sometimes pain and sorrow

One thing we can surely know
God is in control
And to those He leads along this path
He gives a Warrior's Soul

Often times it takes its toll
This battle against evil
We give our lives to this cause
So truth and goodness will prevail
There is no doubt we pay a price
It taxes a body and mind
Though sometimes we feel invincible
There are casualties you'll find

The loss of one who joins this fight
Is not easy to console
No death affects the world as great
As to lose one with a Warrior's Soul

But one day we will meet again
After that final fight
When the darkness of evil will finally give way
To God's everlasting light

A special place God has prepared
One filled with joy and bliss
And many treasures Heaven holds
For a Warrior such as this.
