I'm the oldest grandson of Chief Apolonio Pino...I was three years old when he was shot...I only remember him carrying me on his shoulders...I have his
police chief badge.....which I honor very much. I would be so appreciative if you would be kind enough of you to share the contents of the letters your great grandfather wrote to him....Thank you so much"

My great grandfather, Samuel Downer, wrote letters about his time spent in Santa Fe in 1933 and in a few, he writes about his "friend", Chief Apolonio Pino, who was "murdered" by another officer and how he was awaiting the trial. I haven't read further but recently visited Santa Fe and inquired about your grandfather. When I read more of the letters, would you be interested in knowing what's in them?

My father was Apolonio Pino's son. The murder caused a wife, three sons and two daughters, to live without him. This has happened to so many police officers families, the loss of someone so needed. Law enforcement officers and their families are owed so much debt, for the protection they give us and the sacrifices they are willing to endure.

Dear Great Grandfather, You were honored today in an amazing way. I am so honored to have been a part of it all. My dad, your son, was only 2 at the time of your passing and he still remembers your carrying him on your shoulders. There are times, I'm sure, when I will look up and ask you to carry me on your shoulders.
Thank you for your service.
