I often tell my new night watch officers that a security check should not be considered a routine task. I tell them this because I was a 3 year patrolman working midnights the same night you were killed only a few towns away. I attended your funeral which was my first of many. I remember everything as if it happened yesterday. I did not know you, but at my roll call your name is mentioned. You are not forgotten. R.I. P. brother.

I was a six month "rookie" at Troop K in Colchester and was working the midnight shift with Russ on June 5, 1991. As the "junior" guy on the shift I had last pick of patrols and was usually left with the one nobody wanted, the Northeast patrol. But on this night, knowing that I had taken Northeast for the past several nights, Russ told me to take a break and stated that he would take it. I remember seeing Russ just before we left the Troop for that night, standing in the roll call room, hand on his briefcase. I thanked him and of course he shrugged it off because he was just the type of person that would do you or anyone else a favor without prompting. That was Russ, a great trooper and a great guy. May God bless you and your family forever.

I attended/participated in the funeral for Trooper Bagshaw. I will never forget the members of the CSP that I met that day, and I will never forget the name Russell Bagshaw. May God bless both.

I never had the honor to meet Tpr. Bagshaw. I am currently stationed out of Troop K, Colchester, the same Troop Tpr. Bagshaw was stationed out of. Every day I enter the Troop and see Tpr. Bagshaw's photo hanging on the wall, a sadness tears me inside. He will never be forgotten, EVER! The best way for me to honor Tpr. Bagshaw is to "Serve and Protect" at a level that would make him and his family proud. I hope I am doing this, because I do not want to let down my "Brother Trooper" that I have never met, yet feel connected with.
