Reflections for Detective Charles David Dinwiddie

Dear Chuck, Happy heavenly birthday! We miss you so much. For your birthday this year we sent the man who killed you to jail for life.. While we realize that you probably wanted something else (kindness, honesty and world peace), we could only get LIFE in prison for your repeat felon. (We tried for the death penalty but alas)…..We miss you so much. You were the best. We need you to continue to be our angel. Love, Ellen & your family

Hard to believe that it's been four years since you departed from us. I pray for your family and friends may our all mighty father comfort them. We will not forget you.

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure if the man who shot you will be executed, even if he sentenced to death, I believe it will likely be overturned and reduced to manslaughter. It happened with Adam Sowders. Either way what Charles was doing was high risk and it takes guts to do something like that

Detective Dinwiddie,

I lived in Killeen for about 10 years and spent some time as a Fort Hood MP. I saw you many times in passing. I am thinking about you and your family as the 2nd anniversary of your tragic death has come around. I know what it was like on the first anniversary of my father's death.

Well my friend it has been a year now. It has taken me this long to write to you because it has been hard to describe how much I miss you and to find the words to honor such an amazing friend and human being. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you and what a profound loss we all feel. Every street I go down and several places that I pass bring up fond memories of you. I will always remember the fun we had together and all of the great memories.
To the best man I knew, I miss you and will forever remember and honor you. Rest in peace my friend. I miss you more than words can describe. #63 you will not be forgotten.

I desperately wish I could have attended your funeral, but I was able to meet your brother, sisters, spouse and kids this past weekend at the Texas Peace Officer Memorial Ride in Austin at the Capital. During the Road to Hope I will have the privilege of riding in your honor. I look forward to meeting with your family again in a couple of days to celebrate your life, dedication to service, and the sacrifice you made. You will never be forgotten and your blue family will forever watch over your blood family. God Bless you sir.

You were our fun, our fixer, our love. You brought us together and now we are lost. We need you, we want you, we are broken. I live with the hope of being reunited with you in heaven, for without that hope . . . You were our great love and with that we feel great grief. So thankful for every moment, every word, & every hug from you. Learning to live the truly unfair life.

Chuck Dinwiddie bought the home across the street from me at 4211 Lakecliff Dr, Harker Heights, Tx and lived there for about 10 years. We became friends during that time and I will miss his bringing his children to swim in my pool every summer since I met him. He was one of chief Baldwin's best officers and therefore a great loss to the Killeen PD. All who knew and admired him are mourning the loss of this wonderfull guy. I gave his widow $1000.00 to help her during this time of great stress

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Charles was killed.

To the Dinwiddie family, fellow officers, and all who call Charles beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of dedicated service Detective Dinwiddie gave to his community and the citizens of Texas and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on May 11, 2014.
