Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place.
As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say “it’s OK, you’re with your eternal partners.”
A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

Rest in Peace Mike. I was your home care nurse from 1998-2000. I enjoyed your wonderful stories and our conversations. You opened your beautiful home to all of us who took care of you and shared your great love of Terry Redlin with me. My son is now a Police Officer and for that reason I have thought of you often over the years. You were certainly one of the kindest men I have ever known and even though you faced numerous challenges in your life you never gave up on your faith in God. May you rest in His loving arms and know you are free again to walk the golden streets of Heaven.

I had the honor of knowing Mike when we worked with Concerns of Police Survivors COPS organization after his injury. We did a break out session called "Don't Call Me Lucky" We spoke of the Psychological and Physical effects of being involved in a Line of Duty Death. He spoke of the few things he couldn't do, but many things that he could. Of those he was able to go fishing and shoot his first deer from his chair.
He spoke at the Candlelight Vigil in Washington DC some years ago and stated one day his name will be inscribed on these walls.
Now that, that has happened, I will make a rubbing of his name and remember a friend where tragedy brought us together.
