Reflections for Detective Dennis Eric Guerra

I would just like to take the time to thank each and every one of you who showed so much love and support to me. My life is not over, it's far from it. In fact, it is just the beginning of all that's new to come. The law enforcement community will always have a place in my heart and this just solidifies it all the more. May God bless you all. Officers, Deputies, and Agents.

It's really painful to think of how you suffered. It is truly an amazing thing to respond into a fire when you are a fully trained and equipped firefighter. So much more so when you are not. Rest well my friend.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Dennis was killed.

To the Guerra family, fellow officers, and all who call Dennis beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Guerra gave to his community and the citizens of New Your, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 9, 2014.

I also pray that his partner is recovering.

Remembering John's Best Friend Dwight

He went to work one morning and did not know
This shift he served would bring such sorrow
This call to duty would be his last
His time on earth is now his past
God set this day as his time to go
Rest in peace Officer Guerra, now a hero
He gave the ultimate sacrifice
With integrity and pride he paid the price
His family, friends and colleagues will mourn
As an angel in heaven he is now reborn
His golden heart stopped beating
Hardworking hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the very best.

We mourn the loss of this honorable man, our brother in the law enforcement family. He made this world better not by sitting back and complaining, but by the deeds he performed, the kind words he spoke, the lessons that he taught, and the example that he was. May his soul rest in peace with God. Thank you, Officer Guerra, for your service and sacrifice.
