Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer David Wayne Smith, Jr.

I didn’t know you but remember the morning of your death as it happened on my way to work. Today my mom is in the ER at Wilson and as I sit under the street lamp that illuminates the memorial sign where you were shot, I’m thinking of you and your family and hope all is well with them. You are not forgotten.

Rest in Peace Officer D.W. Smith, I remember I was down in JC for the longest time.. I ran into D.W. when I was having some depression issues and on the verge of... well yea.. he helped me realize what there was to live for.. and then he passed away literally a week later.. I remember running to the gunshots and seeing D.W. in his car.. and then I reached over to his radio and pressed his panic panic and told them where we were, Rest in Peace D.W; I never thought I would have to do that.

I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

I never met David, but this tragedy resonates with all who have served anywhere in the world. His photograph alone conveyed that he was blessed of God and was his faithful servant, paying the ultimate sacrifice. There is no higher testimony to any man.
Lord, bless those who wait to be reunited with him in Glory.
