I met Jason while looking for a suspect in a larceny case, I was following up on near the Buncombe, McDowell county line.. He was eager to assist me in any way he could and seemed like a fine man. I was very sorry to hear of his death. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family and K-9 Maros may the Lord keep them both.

Remembering John's Best Friend Dwight
May 5, 2014
He went to work that day and did not know
This shift he served would bring such sorrow
This call to duty would be his last
His time on earth is now his past
God set this day as his time to go
Rest in peace Officer Crisp, now a hero
He gave the ultimate sacrifice
With integrity and pride he paid the price
His family, friends and colleagues will mourn
As an angel in heaven he is now reborn
His golden heart stopped beating
Hardworking hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the very best.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. May you rest in peace and may the lord give peace and strength to your family and to your associates in the law enforcement community.

One month has passed since Jason was prematurely taken from us. Having personally known and worked with Jason, I can say that he was one of the finest Law Enforcement Officers and human beings I have ever met. He was everything to so many people. He was a husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He was widely respected and loved by everyone who knew him. It was impossible not to be drawn into conversation with him and his likeable personality was contagious. He was a true role model in a world where so many are pretenders. I looked up to him more than he ever knew and sought advice from him countless times. Jason was a brave warrior who went into the mouth of the beast when he was called upon and never hesitated to put himself in harm's way for the protection of others.
I cherish all the conversations we ever had and will carry Jason's memory with me everyday I walk this earth. Not a day has passed in the last month that I have not thought of Jason and pray that his family ultimately heals from this terrible tragedy. Jason was my friend and I will miss him.
God speed brother.
Keep your fears to yourself, but share your courage with others.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Jason and his canine Maros were killed.
To the Crisp family, fellow deputies, and all who call Jason beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Crisp gave to his community and the citizens of our country, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 12, 2014.

Jason and Maros, Shrek and I never got to work with you but, we will carry you with us as we perform the task ya'll enjoyed to do!!
"The K-9 Team"
When duty calls, we're first in line,
To face danger in the night.
They call on us, when it matters most,
We're ready for the fight.
We've trained in darkness, rain and snow,
To be ready for the call.
And when it comes, we do our best,
To make the evil fall.
Through all the days and nights we've worked,
you've been there by my side.
you've never failed to do the tasks,
And performed them all with pride.
While some may call you just a beast,
They just don't understand.
It's just a game, you've learned to play,
To catch the evil man.
Some may call you man's best friend,
But to me you're even more.
Through thick and thin, you've served with me,
you're loyal to the core.
And some of us, though only few,
Know what it really means,
To wear the badge, to hold the leash,
To be a K-9 team.
