Reflections for Chief of Police Walter Brannon Braswell

Chief Braswell is my great great uncle, my beloved grandfather’s uncle. He was loved and respected and never forgotten by my grandfather. Walter, you will be known by our family as long as I am alive. There’s nothing more important than knowing and honoring family. With love and thanks for your service.. Rest peacefully and watch over us Braswells from the other side.

In honor of great great uncle Walter Brannon Braswell, Chief of Police, Fremont, NC- murdered on duty; never forgotten.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 44th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

The sentence given your killer was woefully inadequate. The man should never have been released as was evidenced by his committing another murder.

You gave all to your community.

Rest In Peace

I recently took over as Chief of Police in Fremont Nc and and can honestly tell you that Chief Braswell and his legancy has not been forgotten. To work in law enforcement for 40 years is a milestone and a tribute to your character. The town of Fremont has put up a memorial for you in the Daffadil park, and I the Poice Department has your picture, along with a plaque on the wall of honor for all of our past Chiefs. God bless you and I know Heaven is smiling as you are blessed for your peace making.
